What is Data Residency?

Data residency refers to the physical or geographic location where a company stores its customers' data, including documents, files, and related metadata. For international SaaS providers, data residency is important because it allows customers to choose where their data is stored to meet local legal, regulatory, or internal policy requirements.

By offering configurable data residency, Smart AI Connect allows customers to maintain control over their data location, meet compliance obligations (such as GDPR or HIPAA), and address concerns about data sovereignty and cross-border data transfers.

Choosing Your Data Residency Region

When creating your account, you choose a data residency region. This region determines where your content is stored, including:

• AI project data
• Camera configurations
• AI models and deployments
• Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) information

You can view your selected region on the Settings page and in the application's side panel. All content you create is stored within your selected region.

How We Handle Identity Data

User identity data is managed through a centralised identity service. When you sign in, you are routed through a global landing endpoint that directs you to the appropriate regional infrastructure. This approach enables fast login, consistent identity management, and support for regional residency requirements.

Data Migration Policy

Data residency regions are fixed once selected. Migrating data to a different region is not supported. To change residency, a new account must be created in the preferred region.
